This January, connect with fellow executives in New York City to share ideas and learn about what is happening in the field today.

Keynote speaker Henry Timms, a leading global expert in building digital movements such as #GivingTuesday and co-author of the bestselling book New Power, will help us explore the open, participatory, and peer-driven “new power” of today’s interconnected world and how it affects what we do within the orchestral field.

Two Pre-Meeting Seminars, Creating a Culture of Innovation and Strategic Partnerships and Community Engagement, will be held Saturday, January 25 from 1:00pm-5:00pm and on Sunday, January 26 from 8:00am to noon, respectively. See below for more details.

About the Keynote Speaker

Henry Timms is President and CEO of Lincoln Center, the world’s leading presenter of superb artistic programming. He is the co-author of the international bestselling book New Power, described by David Brooks in the New York Times as “the best window I’ve seen into this new world” and shortlisted for the FT/McKinsey Business Book of the Year. He is also the co-founder of #GivingTuesday,  a global philanthropic movement that has generated over a billion dollars for good causes. Prior to Lincoln Center, Henry was the President and CEO of 92nd Street Y, a cultural and community center that creates programs and movements that foster learning and civic engagement.

Leaders in every sector of every industry are challenged by the complexity, speed, and unpredictability of their chosen marketplace. For the leaders of American orchestras, the constant challenge of securing sustainable resources, refreshing the mix of offerings, and maintaining team motivation requires higher and higher levels of vision, tenacity, and influence. Accordingly, leaders have come to understand that innovation is necessary for the continued growth and maturation of a winning arts enterprise.

Seminar participants will hear both obvious and not-so-obvious mindsets and methods that transform the way people innovate. Leaders will take away a pathway to model, teach, promote, and protect winning behaviors that solidify the mechanics of an innovative work environment. Delivered in a real-world, real-talk, interactive format, this program will enlighten and encourage leaders to keep thriving by creating better ways to achieve their vision.

About the Facilitator

Through his experience at the intersection of marketplace excellence, organizational development, and servant leadership, Derek Young, also known as DY, understands what leaders face every day. Since 1987, he has prepared and inspired hundreds of thousands of leaders to transform their corporate culture. He has conducted more than 5,000 speaking, coaching, training, and consulting engagements for more than 500 corporate, private, government, education, nonprofit, and religious teams from more than 40 industries and has built a proprietary catalog of more than 50 culture programs and keynotes in the areas of leadership development, performance management, sales and service, strategic planning, executive presence, and diversity and inclusion. Among his volunteer leadership roles with organizations such as March of Dimes, 100 Black Men, Girl Scouts, and the YMCA, Young also served as a board member and as the first community engagement chairman for the Nashville Symphony. Arts and culture organizations often talk about “strategy” in terms of the business model, programs, sales, and fundraising tactics. But aligning stakeholders to participate in and support major strategic initiatives continues to be a challenge for many.

This session will focus on deeply understanding three key stakeholder attributes and seven stakeholder classes that can be used to leverage interorganizational partnerships while creating a public dialogue. Participants will walk away with tools that result in effective strategic adaptation in an evolving contemporary society.

About the Facilitator

Dr. Bruce D. Thibodeau founded ACG in 1997 and, as its president, has been embedded in numerous projects in all practice areas to grow institutional sustainability, advance the arts and culture sector, and enhance communities served by this vibrant industry. He has guided hundreds of nonprofit, university, and government clients in achieving effective leadership transitions, planning cultural facilities, increasing revenues, developing dynamic institutional brands and messages, crafting strategic plans and business models, and revitalizing board governance practices.

Prior to founding ACG, Dr. Thibodeau held various management roles at the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Price Waterhouse, and Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles. Dr. Thibodeau holds a doctorate of business administration from the Grenoble Ecole de Management (France), a master of business administration from the F.W.
