Saint Louis Symphony's BLOG
The inside scoop on the orchestra scene
The Saint Louis Symphony started a blog to help patrons better access to behind-the-scenes information. The blog gives readers a day-to-day perspective on orchestra members, staff, and concerts, making them feel closer to the institution. The blog also aims to attract potential ticket buyers to the SLSO web site.
Making it work:
Eddie Silva, a former arts journalist, writes the blog. He adds posts almost daily, including recaps of recent concerts and especially the backstage buzz.
Everything links together:
The blog has never been advertised, and is only mentioned in the program brochure and linked by the SLSO web site. However, in the last three months, the SLSO’s blog readership has tripled. Started in October of 2004, it has become the second-most-visited page on www.slso.org (after the concert calendar). Many visitors have bookmarked the blog and use it as the main portal into the Saint Louis Symphony’s main home page. Eddie receives many e-mails from patrons and readers, often selecting replies for inclusion on the page. The high readership and consistent letters suggest the blog is quickly expanding patrons’ sense of connection to the orchestra.
