A partnership program of the League and Meet The Composer, Music Alive creates opportunities composers to be in residence with orchestras and encourages the commissioning and performance of today’s music. Since its inception in 1999, Music Alive has supported 71 residencies with 69 composers and 54 orchestras.
By providing critical support to orchestras seeking to expand their connections to living composers and new music, the program fosters a greater understanding and appreciation for contemporary classical music. The participating orchestras have reflected a broad geographic and budget range. Similarity, the chosen composers have ranged from young, emerging talents to established Pulitzer Prize winners.
Music Alive is made possible with support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and The Aaron Copland Fund for Music.
