The League of American Orchestras is pleased to welcome applications for its Institutional Vision Program – open to leadership teams from seven orchestras deeply committed to the principals of long-term institutional growth and success, intense self-reflection and disciplined big-picture thinking.
The Program centers on a three-year implementation program, building on the work of an intense five-day seminar, all supported by a distinguished faculty. Leadership teams from selected orchestras will include the board leader, executive leader, and artistic leader – either music director or key musician.
This program has been developed over the past five years. Evaluation of results from the 2005 and 2006 programs have shown significant results for the orchestra involved, and, based on these evaluations, the 2008 program has been further refined to involve more intensive post-seminar work over a longer period with greater faculty oversight, and a smaller number of selected orchestras to better focus the experience.
The Program includes:
• Attendance at the Orchestra Leadership Academy seminar; “Developing an Institutional Vision”: July 31-August 5, 2008 at the Eaglewood Resort (outside of Chicago);
• Development and implementation of action plans which form the basis of the post-seminar work, to be monitored and mentored over the following three-years;
• Assignment of a faculty member as key contact to each orchestra following the seminar, to:
-make site visits to your orchestra -- a minimum of two and up to four
-be available by phone for consultations and mentoring;
-review and give feedback on each orchestra’s required semi-annual progress reports.
• Annual reconvenings at the League’s National Conferences;
• An annual evaluation designed to assess the institutional impact of participation in the Institutional Vision Program
Thanks to generous underwriting, the tuition for this program, which represents an total investment of about $45,000 per participating orchestra, is only a token $3,000. Those seven orchestras accepted will receive, in essence, scholarships of $42,000.
