Request for Conference Proposals

League of American Orchestras 2018 National Conference
June 13 – 15, 2018—Chicago

Professional development is a core component of the League’s National Conference and includes thought-provoking presentations, stimulating discussions, and in-depth seminars that offer professional and peer insight. The League invites our members to contribute ideas and provide input on what’s most interesting, pressing, and important to you.

We seek to offer sessions that appeal to all attendees and welcome all ideas—whether it’s a fully developed session, the name of someone that has inspired you, a skill that needs to be refreshed, or simply an issue of interest.

Please share your ideas and suggestions through this new online form.

Your submission can include a fully formed seminar recommendation, including a content outline and speaker, or a simple topic suggestion for your Constituency Group. The League’s Program Committee will review all submissions and curate the Conference sessions that reflect a thoughtful balance of institutions, topics, and perspectives. Not all proposals can be accepted, of course, but all will be kept for future consideration as the League plans its leadership and learning programs.

You may submit more than one topic, but please use a different form for each topic.

Evaluation Criteria

Feel free to complete as little or as much of the information requested on the form. However, if you are submitting a complete session proposal, the Program Committee will evaluate each submission using the evaluation criteria below:

  • The session proposal is organized, well-conceived, and well-developed.
  • The topic is important, timely, and relevant to the orchestral field.
  • The session ideas, purpose, and learner outcomes are clearly focused and well-articulated.
  • The proposal content is broadly applicable to a diverse range of disciplines, cultural perspectives, geographic locations, and/or orchestra size.

Proposals may NOT be accepted based on the following criteria:

  • Topic is too narrowly focused to have broad appeal.
  • Topic does not offer any new insights or innovation in the area.
  • Proposal description lacks clarity and/or specificity.

Disqualification

The following will result in disqualification of proposals and will not be reviewed by the League’s Program Committee:

  • Proposals that appear to be “too commercial,” focused on specific products and services rather than an issue.
  • Proposals that have not been formally “submitted” through the online proposal process.

Deadline

Proposals to be considered for the 2018 Conference must be submitted by November 30, 2017.
