Orchestra Leadership Academy Seminar:

Aligning Money & Organizational Strategy: Beyond Breakeven

Saturday, January 28th from 1:00 to 6:00pm and Sunday, January 29th from 8:00am to 12:30pm at the Barclay Intercontinental Hotel in New York City

This seminar will unlock the mysteries of balance sheet analysis specifically for orchestras, highlighting the leading indicators of strength, weakness and risk, and how to connect money and strategy. You will learn how to look at your own orchestra’s financial position using this approach, to engage leadership teams and other stakeholders in a deeper conversation about your strategy and the ways in which your financial position informs your degree of risk. Is your organization well positioned to undertake a capital campaign? Begin a new initiative? Expand or manage contraction? Take risks in your programming? Find out how to name your pain and convert those vague anxieties into a real conversation that can become the basis of meaningful change.

This seminar is in conjunction with the League’s Mid-Winter Managers Meeting in January and will be open to executive directors as well as other League constituents.

Mid-Winter Managers Meeting: Sunday, January 29 (begins at 2pm) - Monday, January 30, 2012

Mid-Winter Managers Meeting will include:

  • Reflections on the State of the Field from Jesse Rosen
  • Beyond Breakeven 2.0
    January 29, 4pm

At last year’s Conference, Susan Nelson, principal from Technical Development Corporation (TDC), introduced new attention to how the alignment of financial strength and risk with strategy should drive organizational decision-making. This year’s Plenary – whether or not you heard Susan’s address – will further explore these themes, diving more deeply into the idea of how you can create an integrated organizational and financial strategy that responds to current realities in our sector.

More details about the Mid-Winter Managers Meeting sessions will follow shortly.
