Boston Pops Intern/Volunteer: Assist in the day-to-day planning and operations of the Boston Pops. Major responsibilities will include: Assisting on all aspects of artist hospitality and serving as a resource to guest artists, including: travel and hotel coordination, transportation schedules, dressing room signs and amenities, and catering. Gather guest artists and conductors biographical materials. Update artist information in OPAS database and maintaining recording database. Distribute program changes and assist in house ticket distribution. Manage special projects as assigned by the Boston Pops staff.

requirements
Excellent communication, organizational, writing and office skills. Must be able to present his/herself professionally to world-renowned musicians. Able to adapt quickly to a fast-paced environment. Ability to work under pressure and on multiple jobs simultaneously. Sound computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office, multimedia programs, and internet/e-mail. Helpful but not required: basic HTML and Web 2.0 experience. Knowledge of classical, jazz, and musical theater repertoire. Evening and weekend work required; including July 3-4. Physical Requirements: Artist assistant work will require periods of 2-3 hrs of standing, active physical work, and some moving/lifting of heavy items, including trips to local stores, as well as in the building. Assistance with 4th of July concerts will require working outside and moving/lifting. Project Dates: Feb 2010-August 2010; times flexible/TBD; between 8-35hrs/week, depending on the time of year. Attire: Professional dress for concert duty; business casual at other times. This position is unpaid.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra, Inc., was founded in 1881 and is comprised of major sub-organizations including Boston Symphony Orchestra, Tanglewood Music Center, Days in the Arts, Tanglewood Festival Chorus, the Boston Pops, Esplanade Pops, and the Chamber Players. The Boston Symphony Orchestra performs in historic Symphony Hall from October through April under the direction of Maestro James Levine. The Boston Pops Orchestra, under conductor Keith Lockhart, performs in Symphony Hall during May and June in addition to, annual series Holiday Pops concerts in December. In July and August the orchestra performs at Tanglewood, its summer home in the magnificent Berkshires of western Massachusetts. The administrative offices of the BSO employ approximately 175 people
