GRANTS TO ORCHESTRAS

Some details of the projects listed below are subject to change, contingent upon prior Endowment approval.
Albany Symphony Orchestra, Albany, GA, $10,000
To support the Creole Romantics, a series of concerts featuring the Albany State University Concert Chorale and guest pianist Marcia Hood. In addition to a performance for the general public, two concerts will be for Doughtery County grade school students.
Billings Symphony Orchestra and Chorale, $10,000
To support a performance and programming by cellist Alisa Weilerstein. Ms. Weilerstein will perform Shostakovich's Cello Concerto, conduct a master class for aspiring local cellists, and participate in an open rehearsal to which area youth will be invited.
Catskill Symphony Orchestra, $10,000
To support harmonica master Howard Levy in a concert performance and outreach activities. A Grammy winner, Mr. Levy will perform with the symphony, as well as participate in enrichment programs for area public school youth from a rural, three-county area in central New York.
Charlotte Symphony, $10,000
To support the Blue Violin Concert featuring violinist Doug Cameron and related outreach activity. Prior to the concert at the Center for Performing Arts and Education, Cameron will conduct workshops for string instrumentalists.
Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, $10,000
To support associated activities and a concert featuring Gareth Johnson. Johnson is a winner of the International Sphinx Competition that recognizes young, ethnically diverse string instrumentalists. The concert is part of a series of concerts that will feature African American composers and musicians during Black History Month.
Erie Philharmonic Orchestra, $10,000
To support Young Guns II, part of the In the Spotlight concert series. The concert theme will focus on musical prodigies and will present teenage pianists Michelle and Christina Naughton playing works composed at an early age by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Poulenc, and Bizet.
Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, $10,000
To support the presentation of Ellis Island: The Dream of America by Peter Boyer. The composition is a blend of oral history and symphonic music that celebrates the American immigrant experience.
Great Falls Symphony, $10,000
To support a performance by flutists Sir James Galway and Lady Jeanne Galway. Band and orchestra students from across Montana will be invited to an open rehearsal with the Galways.
Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, $10,000
To support the Community Gospel Concert. Scores of choristers will perform with famed gospel vocalist Wintley Phipps in celebration of Greensboro's historic civil rights sit-in events.
Plymouth Symphony Society, $10,000
To support the Fusion Festival–Inspirations from India, featuring sitarist Hasu Patel. Patel will premiere a work commissioned for the festival.
Western Piedmont Symphony, $10,000
To support a performance by oboist Joseph Robinson, bassoonist Wilfred Roberts, clarinetist Douglas Miller, and French horn player Brice Andrus. The concert will include the premiere of composer Edmund Cionek's The Adirondacks.

Garrett Lakes Arts Festival, $10,000
To support a series of concerts by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Performances will be conducted by Marvin Hamlisch and Andrés Cárdenés.
