The Off the Cuff series is a four-part series of concerts aimed at making classical music accessible and enjoyable to a wider range of audiences by making guests an integral part of the production. Off the Cuff concerts feature an in-depth look at masterpieces of the symphonic repertoire of some of the most beloved composers in classical music such as Tchaikovsky, Mahler and Shostakovich.
Each program begins with commentary from the stage, followed by musical excerpts performed by musicians, and finishes with the piece played in its entirety. Stories about the composers and their lives are told, engaging audiences with the history of the men and women behind the music. Through the guidance of Maestra Marin Alsop, the Off the Cuff series teaches music-lovers and novices alike how to get the most out of the experience of listening to symphonic music by pointing out the unique complexities of each composer’s work.
