Washington, D.C. – The
Obama Presidential Administration and the new Congress - with an
increased Democratic majority – will take office in January. Your
voice will be essential to advancing a robust national arts agenda.
While the Presidency and Congressional seats have now been chosen, key
decisions about policy priorities and leadership appointments, such as
the new Chair of the National Endowment of the Arts, will be made in
the coming months. Congress will likely wait until the new term begins
before taking up any major funding bills, but there is a potential for
policy activity during the “lame duck” session before the end of 2008.
The League will keep you up to date. In the meantime, the next two
months provide an excellent opportunity to contact Members of Congress
while they are at home. Don’t forget to reach out to both newly and
re-elected officials to describe the public value your orchestra
provides in your community.
