The U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs offers grants for programs that support exchanges and build relationships between U.S. nonprofit organizations and cultural groups abroad. Approximately $5,000,000 or more will be available in FY08 for 15-20 projects supporting exchanges with Africa, East Asia, Europe, the Near East, North Africa, South Central Asia and the Western Hemisphere. Projects should promote mutual understanding and partnerships through multi-phased exchanges taking place over one to two years with one region only. Proposals should encourage citizen engagement in current issues, focusing particularly on youth, and promote the development of democratic societies and institutions. The application deadline has passed but further details can be found at the State Department’s website.
