FY07 Challenge America Reaching Every Community
Albany Symphony Orchestra, Georgia, $10,000
To support a series of concerts featuring a winner of the International
Sphinx Competition, a competition that promotes the careers of African
American and Latino string players. Concerts will be presented for students
and community members located in a predominately rural area of Georgia.
Great Falls Symphony, $10,000
To support the Orchestra Residencies Program with violinist Midori.
Residency activities include performances and workshops with both the
Great Falls Symphony and the Great Falls Regional Youth Orchestra.
Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, $10,000
To support the Community Gospel Concert. Several hundred choristers
will be led by composer, pianist Richard Smallwood in celebration of
the anniversary of the International Civil Rights Center and Museum.
Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra, $10,000
To support the presentation of German Requiem by Brahms. Related activities
include a panel discussion prior to the performance and a masterclass
with guest soloists Erin Kelly and Joshua Copeland.
Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, $10,000
To support the performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. The Philharmonic
will collaborate with regional civic choruses for the production.
Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, $10,000
To support the Orchesta s Rural Community Tour featuring a guest artist.
The orchestra, with featured guest soprano Alfrelynn Roberts, will
perform in southwest Michigan towns.
Northwest Symphony Orchestra, $10,000
To support Celebration, a project celebrating the organization s 100th
performance of a work by a northwest composer. Project activities include
a concert by local contemporary composers and outreach with underserved
Highline School District students.
Orchestra of Southern Utah, $10,000
To support the Global Music Suite Festival and related programming.
Pianist Marshall McDonald and cellist Steven Nelson will create a
composition for the festival and perform work at select local schools.
Richmond Philharmonic, $10,000
To support Celebrating Spanish Culture Through Music. The orchestra
will present concerts designed to increase knowledge of Spanish orchestral
music and other cultural traditions.
St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra, $10,000
To support a concert by the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra featuring guest
clarinetist Burt Hara. At the historic Paramount Theatre in downtown St.
Cloud, Mr. Hara will conduct a master class prior to the concert.
Waukesha Symphony Orchestra, $10,000
To support the performances of a piano composition for the left hand
titled Seven Last Words by Daron Hagen and performed by guest artists
Joel Fan. The symphony will invite organizations that work with people
with disabilities to the final dress performance.
RELATED CHALLENGE AMERICA FAST-TRACK REVIEW GRANTS
Pier One Theatre, $10,000
To support violinist Paul Rosenthal, flutist Gary Stroutsos, and
conductor/composer Bob Richardson as guest artists of the Kenai
Peninsula Orchestra during the Summer Music Festival. Mr. Stroutsos
will also participate in a community lecture and performance prior to
the concerts.
