How to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey

There are many ways to help musicians and orchestras affected by Hurricane Harvey. On this page, we will document efforts that are initiated by our members or efforts initiated especially to help our members.  On our disaster relief page, you will find other organizations that are benefitting musicians and orchestras.

If you know of an effort that is not listed here, please send an email to Celeste Wroblewski at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

  • HYS Music and Instrument Fund for Harvey Victims—With your support, Houston Youth Symphony can help young musicians and school music programs in our area recover from the devastating floods that have affected so many here in the greater Houston region. Many of our young musicians have lost their instruments, or they’ve been damaged and need repairs. Several area schools have lost music libraries and instruments. To address these losses in our region, we have established the HYS Music & Instrument Fund for Harvey Victims. Your gift today can help us provide grants to young musicians (K-12) to replace or repair their instruments, help us provide funding to school orchestra and band programs to replace items lost in the flood, and to support the HYS instrument fund. Affected families and school programs will be invited to apply for funding, with applications reviewed by a committee made up of HYS Board members and community leaders. Priority will be given to youth orchestra students from the region, and to area school band and orchestra programs. Application specifics will be available on the HYS website by September 30. Those interested in contributing orchestral instruments in good repair should email This email address is being protected from spambots. • The Houston Symphony Employee Assistance Fund and the Annual Fund—On September 9, the Houston Symphony reported that “The last two weeks have brought unprecedented challenges to Houston, but they have also seen our incredible community rally to help and support those impacted by the storm. I am very proud that many musicians of the Houston Symphony have visited the George R. Brown Convention Center and other temporary shelters elsewhere in the city, to provide the respite and comfort of music.” The Symphony set up an employee assistance fund to help about a dozen musicians and staff who suffered damage to their homes.  Donors can also contribute to the Symphony’s Annual Fund to support the Symphony at large, whose hall sustained some minor damage.
